Do they serve the "public good" or the business owner good and the customer
good? What "public good" is served, for example, by the local strip club? As for protection of the individual, I would argue (particularly in today's social media world) that the free market can do a far superior job of protecting and providing for the minority than government imposed social order can. If a business wishes to artificially(and stupidly) restrict its potential customer base, so be it...in doing so, they are hurting themselves far more than they are hurting anyone else.
